What happened at Takasbank
Yunus Arinci left his role as chief executive after prosecutors interviewed him over the weekend and then released him, said people with knowledge of the situation who requested anonymity because it is sensitive. Arinci declined to comment.
Takasbank said it would use its social media channels to make a statement if it deems one necessary, while neither confirming nor denying the CEO's exit. A Borsa Istanbul spokesman did not respond to requests for comment. Ergun also serves as Takasbank's deputy chairman.
The expanding investigation
Arinci's departure comes amid broader turbulence across market institutions as authorities push deeper into suspected manipulation tied to investment funds and equities. The inquiry traces back to a September flare-up when some funds could not honor redemption requests. Regulators responded by ordering the winding down of 131 funds overseen by seven asset managers, impacting more than 455,000 investors.
Before Mahmut Sutcu, Ibrahim Omer Gonul headed the Capital Markets Board; investigators previously questioned him as a suspect in the fund probe, and he was later removed from his subsequent role as head of the Public Oversight, Accounting and Auditing Standards Authority.

A reset at the markets regulator
Over the weekend, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan installed Muhsin Atci, the head of Turkey's tax inspection authority, as chairman of the Capital Markets Board.
Why investors should care
Takasbank sits at the core of Turkey's market plumbing, handling clearing, settlement and custody for trades between brokers, investors and Borsa Istanbul. Leadership churn there and at the regulator raises operational and policy questions just as officials sort through a large-scale fund unwind. The bottom line: keep an eye on how the probe shapes market rules and liquidity, because those shifts flow straight into pricing, trading costs and your portfolio's risk.
