What Anthropic plans to sell
Anthropic is structuring a US share sale that could pull in up to $3.5 billion specifically from investors in Japan, according to a filing dated Monday. The sale will be accessible in Australia, Canada, and select European markets, and Japan is included among the small set of locations allowing investors to buy in directly.
Who is running the Japan piece
Mizuho Securities Co. will oversee the Japan tranche. Investor orders will be handled by Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities Co., and Morgan Stanley MUFG Securities Co., while Mizuho Financial Group Inc. and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc. are among the deal's underwriters.

Why it matters for investors
Japan's pipeline of debut listings has thinned to a 14-year low, so access to Anthropic's float stands out. The company behind the Claude chatbot filed last month, landing in a crowded funding window where Meta Platforms Inc. is targeting up to $95 billion by issuing common and preferred shares, while Alphabet Inc. is aiming for as much as $85 billion in equity financing. In plain English: Anthropic's deal will gauge demand for the latest wave of AI-related issuance.
