Every fan interviewed by CNBC Make It indicated they had no regrets about the expense.
Some fans told the news outlet they felt the tournament was a once-in-a-lifetime event. Others said the celebration with fellow fans made the expense worthwhile.
Held in the United States for the first time since 1994, the 2026 World Cup attracted supporters from around the globe. Fans from the UK, Mexico, Israel, Australia, and across the US converged on stadiums, turning matches into global festivals. Many described the atmosphere as unparalleled compared to regular club games, citing the camaraderie and shared passion as key reasons for their spending.

"She was like, 'This is my gift to you. Whatever you want to spend, please spend it,'" Hall said.
Why Fans Said the Cost Was Worth It
"It's way more of a celebration with your people," Macias said. "It's a great experience. I saved for years for this experience, and it's 100% worth it."
Macias had previously paid about $1,500 to attend a World Cup match in Mexico City.
Andrew Hall agreed. "Would I do it again? Absolutely. I wish the World Cup was every year," he said.
Will Fans Do It Again?
The couple has already made plans to attend the next World Cup, co-hosted by Portugal, Spain, and Morocco. Rachel Vinecombe said, "And it's very worth it. We'll do it again."
Andrew Hall also said he would do it again.
Worth Noting
By July 2, 2026, StubHub listed premium resale tickets for key knockout games at approximately $20,000, while upper-level seats were available for about $5,000.
Beyond the ticket prices, fans also spent heavily on travel, lodging, and merchandise. Many described the matches as unforgettable spectacles, with stadiums filled with chants and flags from dozens of nations. The financial commitment was substantial, but every fan interviewed emphasized that the shared joy and electric energy made it a price they were happy to pay.
