The round and who backed it
In a Series D, FuriosaAI secured $620 million, pushing its valuation to $2.9 billion from $735 million a year earlier - a near fourfold increase. The roster includes US-based Infinitum Partners, while South Korea's National Growth Fund committed $280 million and international investors added $110 million. Other named backers include Jericho Capital, Worldline Capital, Singapore's QUDA Capital and Abu Dhabi-based NeoFort Holding. Returning backers Naver Corp., Korea Development Bank, DSC Investment, Nextrans and Kakao Investment participated again, while the Export-Import Bank of Korea backed the company with its first-ever direct startup investment.
Chips, scale and the roadmap
FuriosaAI, established in 2017, kicked off volume manufacturing of its RNGD chips in January; the name is pronounced "renegade." According to the startup, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. will make 20,000 RNGD accelerators this year and intends to lift production beyond 40,000 units in 2027. The chips are in use at Samsung SDS, LG Group, and Korean AI startup Upstage. The company says it is collaborating with Broadcom Inc. to develop a third-generation accelerator for large-scale AI infrastructure, and it relies on an architecture designed to reduce power-hungry data movement to take on a market led by Nvidia.
New technologies can quietly shift how investors find and keep an edge. We're hosting our first ever investor livestream on 11/17 to show you how to use ChatGPT and Claude to invest like a pro, hosted by Briefs Finance CEO Jaspreet Singh. Save your seat.
Why it matters for your portfolio
Capital is flowing toward alternatives to Nvidia's data-center chips, especially gear that uses less power. The emphasis is on inference - the step where trained AI models produce results - which is becoming a major cost battleground as electricity demand rises. If FuriosaAI pairs lower energy use with ramping supply and notable customers, it could become a piece of the AI infrastructure stack that shows up across holdings in your portfolio.
Curious investors often gain advantage by learning to use smarter tools thoughtfully. On 11/17, our CEO Jaspreet Singh goes live for our first ever investor livestream on how to use ChatGPT and Claude to invest like a pro. Register to join him.
