Big quarterly leap
Moore Threads Technology Co. reported that sales grew 1,774% over the three months to September, pushing third-quarter revenue to 1.6 billion yuan, or $240 million. It was the fastest pace since its Shanghai debut last December, and a Wednesday filing said profit for the period was 49.3 million yuan.
What drove the jump
Management credited rapid uptake of its flagship MTT S5000 chip by enterprise buyers, including AI startups and government entities. Spending climbed as well, led by an 88% increase in research and development as the company works to speed the buildout of its next-generation GPU architecture.
Where the stock and strategy stand
The chipmaker listed in Shanghai last year amid Beijing's push for tech self-reliance. Shares spiked roughly eight times in the initial days, then surrendered 59% of those gains as Chinese equities have been hit by a faltering AI trade. On strategy, Moore Threads and JD.com are collaborating to build a domestic AI computing cluster with 100,000 GPUs that aims to underpin China's AI cloud, and it plans a secondary listing in Hong Kong.
