Millennium Management eyes prediction-market data for trading signals

Published Oct 27, 2026
Share:
Summary:
  • Millennium is building tools so its portfolio managers can use Polymarket and Kalshi data as inputs for trades across traditional assets.
  • The New York firm isn't trading event contracts, and spokespeople for Millennium, Polymarket and Kalshi said they would not comment.
  • Event-betting venues see monthly notional volumes in the tens of billions of dollars, even as the industry faces state-level lawsuits over sports wagers and separate insider-trading allegations in high-profile markets.

What Millennium is doing

Millennium Management is testing ways to fold prediction-market prices into its day-to-day investing. The firm is building systems that allow its portfolio managers to extract signals from platforms including Polymarket and Kalshi Inc., then use those inputs across stocks, bonds, commodities, and currencies.

For now, this is about data, not placing bets. People familiar with the plans said Millennium is not currently trading event contracts, and some managers are especially interested in information from markets tied to geopolitics, the economy and commodities. Spokespeople for all three companies declined to comment.

Why prediction markets are on Wall Street's radar

Prediction markets let users make binary wagers on outcomes like elections, sports and awards. Each month, notional activity totals many tens of billions of dollars, with a large share driven by sports.

Liquidity providers such as Susquehanna International Group and Jump Trading got involved early, and AQR Capital Management sought to grow a quant research team focused on these markets over the summer. Platforms want more institutional participation beyond their retail-heavy base, so data partnerships are emerging as the on-ramp. To court Wall Street, they are also rolling out contracts linked to gold, oil and inflation indicators.

Savvy investors know that fresh tools and data can sharpen long term decision making. We're hosting our first ever investor livestream on 11/17 to show you how to use ChatGPT and Claude to invest like a pro, hosted by Briefs Finance CEO Jaspreet Singh. Save your seat.

The legal overhang and what the studies say

Big firms have mostly stayed away from betting on events, citing perceived legal, regulatory and reputational risks. Across dozens of states, Kalshi and other firms are embroiled in litigation over whether sports contracts qualify as gambling, and, separately, high-profile markets tied to the Iran conflict, elections, and corporate events have faced allegations of insider trading. Both Kalshi and Polymarket say their users are barred from trading on inside information.

There is a performance case to watch. In April, Wolfe Research said that bettors placing wagers on a company to exceed earnings estimates have posted hit rates above the typical level. And earlier this year, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York found Kalshi's predictions for Fed policy and economic data were roughly in line with professional forecasters.

What this could mean for your portfolio

Millennium brought in a record 22 billion dollars of fresh capital while enlarging its trading operations over recent months. It oversees 97 billion dollars and had gained 8.1% through September. If prediction-market prices prove timely, more hedge funds may treat them like another macro data feed, not a casino slip. The bottom line: watch the signals, not the bets.

Learning how emerging technologies fit your process can quietly improve investment outcomes. On 11/17, our CEO Jaspreet Singh goes live for our first ever investor livestream on how to use ChatGPT and Claude to invest like a pro. Register to join him.

Are We in a Recession? 5 Threats to the Economy and Where the Money Is Moving
  • The S&P 500 is up about 13% this year, but without AI it's in a bear market, with nearly 40% of its companies down more than 20% for four months or longer.
  • Jackson, Briefs Finance's head of investing research, sees five threats: rising interest rates, sticky inflation, an economy propped up by AI, a struggling UK, and high oil prices.
  • The opportunities he's watching mostly sit outside the dollar: rising economies like Brazil and Indonesia, US-backed emerging market bonds paying 7% to 9%, and the shifts that fear creates.

Common Investing Mistakes: Why a Stock Grade Is One Tool, Not the Whole Toolkit
  • The Briefs Score shows growth, income, and wealth preservation investors how well a stock fits their goal, with a separate letter grade for each one.
  • The most common mistake is treating the letter as an instruction. An A tells you a stock scores well for one goal, not that you should buy today.
  • Research works best as one input in a process you own. The grade shows how a stock stacks up. You supply the goal, the timeline, and the rules for being wrong.

How to Tell an Asset From a Liability: The One Question to Ask Before You Buy Anything
  • The typical American household earned more in 2025 than in any year on record, yet only 30% of Americans say they could pay a surprise $1,000 bill from savings, so the problem isn't income but what the income gets spent on.
  • An asset puts money in your pocket and a liability takes money out, and the wealthy buy assets first, then let the assets pay for the fun stuff.
  • Before you buy anything, ask one question: does this put money in my pocket, or take money out of my pocket? Then you need a plan for the money you keep.

How to Build Your First $2,000 Emergency Fund and Wipe Out Every Debt Over 10%
  • Your first money goal isn't investing, it's $2,000 in its own account named Do Not Touch, built by moving 10% of every paycheck into it automatically.
  • More than a third of American adults couldn't cover a $400 surprise bill with cash or savings, according to the Federal Reserve, and that's how one bad day turns into years of credit card payments.
  • Once the $2,000 is there, attack every debt charging more than 10% interest, highest rate first, because you can't out-invest a 22% credit card so paying it off is the investment.
