Funding, founders and background
Hyphenate secured $45 million in fresh capital in a round led by Nexus Venture Partners, with participation from B Capital Group US LLC and returning backers Foundation Capital LLC and BoldCap Ventures LLC. The raise brings its total financing to $54 million.
The two-year-old, New York-headquartered startup was formerly known as Maximor. Co-founders Krishnamurthy and Amudan, both 32, met while pursuing Masters degrees in computer science at Indian Institute of Technology Madras. They sold a venture they built as students, then spent seven years at Microsoft Corp.'s US headquarters before launching Hyphenate. Krishnamurthy serves as chief executive.
What the agents do and who is using them
Hyphenate competes with firms such as Ramp by tailoring AI agents for finance operations. The company says its software keeps the books for clients including Groupon Inc. and Synthesia Ltd.
At Mini Melts USA Inc., Hyphenate's agents process orders, invoices, and refunds. Within a few months, the deployment was performing more than 16,000 hours per year worth of finance tasks, according to the company. The agents are built to carry out multi-step work with little oversight, and Hyphenate says they route decisions to finance teams when human judgment is needed.
"Our proprietary reinforcement learning algorithm learns from the financial history of our customer," said Krishnamurthy. "That becomes the brain of the self-improving AI agent." He added, "Once a team sees our AI handle one workflow to auditors' satisfaction, they give it the next task and then the next."

Where the money goes and how the team is set up
The company plans to invest the new funds to push further into accounting and strategic finance. It also notes that roughly one third of its engineering staff is in Bangalore.
According to Hyphenate, revenue is now 86x what it was following its $9 million seed round roughly 13 months earlier. The firm says it is building on rising demand for AI systems that analyze markets, reconcile books, and lighten manual work for banks and asset managers across compliance and risk monitoring.
Why it matters for investors
AI is moving past chatbots into agents that can handle real workflows. That opens efficiency gains in financial departments, even as questions remain about entrusting sensitive processes to autonomous systems and concerns persist about humans ceding control.
For your portfolio, the takeaway is simple: enterprise AI that proves out with auditors and scales across tasks can earn budget even in tight cycles. Hyphenate's traction with recognizable customers, expansion into strategic finance, and a sizable round led by a top-tier investor put it on the list of private AI names to watch alongside established competitors.
