What the deal is
Bedrock Robotics makes driverless excavators and other autonomous building machines. The company secured a $600 million Series C that sets its valuation at $4.1 billion and brings total fundraising close to $1 billion. It plans to announce the round on Monday.
CapitalG and Emergence Capital led the financing. Other participants included Valor Equity Partners, 8VC, and NVentures, Nvidia Corp.'s venture arm, along with Eclipse, Georgian, Perry Creek Capital and Temasek Holdings Pte.
How the technology is progressing
The company has moved out of the lab and onto real sites. Since August, Bedrock's self-driving excavators have been earning revenue on commercial projects. The next step is scale: deploying more autonomous machines and building the support needed so they are dependable for routine construction.
The broader backdrop
Bedrock sits in a new crop of startups applying artificial intelligence to physical and industrial work. Its focus is tackling a shortage of equipment operators and drivers. That effort dovetails with a broader priority for the tech industry and the federal government: strengthening U.S. infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities while data centers proliferate across the country.

Why investors might care
Valuation jumped from $1.75 billion in February to $4.1 billion now as the company raised $600 million after a $270 million round earlier this year. In plain English: investors are backing AI that does real-world jobs, which could influence where capital clusters in industrial tech and infrastructure exposure in your portfolio.
