What KKR is doing
People with knowledge of the talks say KKR is inviting more banks to vie for positions on a possible Logisteed listing on the Tokyo bourse. Morgan Stanley is already on the ticket, Bloomberg News has reported. The talks are private, and the people asked not to be named.
What the deal could look like
An offering could happen as soon as next year, though the size and timing are still in flux. One person said proceeds could reach as much as $4 billion, while others offered lower figures. Bloomberg data indicate that at roughly $4 billion, the deal would rank as Japan's biggest IPO after SoftBank Corp. raised $21 billion in 2018. Spokespeople for KKR and Logisteed did not comment.
Context and why it matters
Logisteed, formerly Hitachi Transport System Ltd., was bought by KKR in early 2023 and taken private. KKR later sold several warehouses, and the postal arm of Japan Post Holdings Co. bought a 19.9% stake at approximately ¥142 billion, roughly $900 million. A debut by Logisteed would be among Tokyo's most prominent floats in years and could add some needed momentum to Japan's market.
