The deal at a glance
Ares Management Corp. is set to acquire Infinity Transportation from KKR & Co. in a transaction valued at $2.9 billion, per the Wall Street Journal. The report, published Monday, attributed the agreement to the two firms.
What Ares is buying
Infinity Transportation, based in Atlanta, operates a fleet of roughly 50,000 railcars. The business serves a customer base of more than 350 throughout North America, the Journal said.
How KKR ended up with Infinity
In 2021, KKR took ownership of Infinity after acquiring a majority stake in the insurer Global Atlantic, which had supported the railcar business. KKR has held Infinity for about five years and, over that span, lifted its book value to more than double, according to the report.
