What moved the odds
A week ago, traders on Kalshi were leaning hard toward a near term IPO announcement from Anthropic. After a pullback in AI names, those probabilities reset to 57% for an announcement before December and 68% before January, down from over 85% and 90%. The Kalshi contract tracks the timing of Anthropic's formal IPO announcement, with confirmation coming via reports from media organizations.
Why markets turned
The move came after Democrats secured majorities in Congress along with a number of important governor's offices, a backdrop that raised worries that data center construction could slow and, with it, the AI trade. In Texas, Gov.-elect Gina Hinojosa, a Democrat who unseated three term Republican Greg Abbott, campaigned for tighter limits on data center buildouts. "We will have laws to protect Texans and we need to stop what we are doing with data centers until we have those protections," she told CNN on Thursday.
The market reaction
By Thursday's close, the Nasdaq Composite had fallen more than 10% from its recent high, crossing the threshold for a market correction. The S&P 500 was down 4.4%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average shed more than 1,800 points, a drop of 3.4%. Stocks tried to rebound Friday, with the Nasdaq higher by 1.3% and the S&P 500 up 0.7%, while the Dow slipped 0.2%.
AI linked stocks bounced with that move. Micron Technology and Nvidia each rose about 4% Friday after dropping 17% and 9% the day before. CoreWeave gained more than 2% Friday morning after falling about 10% on Wednesday. Even with Friday's uptick, the week left steep losses.

What it means for your portfolio
IPO timing is a read on confidence. Softer odds for an Anthropic announcement track with concern that policy shifts could cool data center growth, a key support for AI demand. The bottom line: if buildouts slow, the near term setup for AI exposed stocks - and IPO windows tied to that story - gets tougher.
