Johannesburg-based DN Invest Ltd., backed by billionaire Stephen Saad and prominent businessman Mike Teke, is lining up a 2.1 billion rand investment program to expand across communications technology. The firm singled out four assets for new stakes: KnowRoaming, Mission Mobile, Frogfoot Networks Ltd. and Vox Telecom SA. Those additions build on a portfolio that already includes 25 companies.
How they're funding it and what they want
Chief Executive Officer Ryan Noach said the push is intended to double the group's size over the next three years. He added in an interview, "There is more coming." Most transactions are financed from DN Invest's own balance sheet rather than external funding.
Scale today and where the money comes from
DN Invest's top line presently exceeds 12 billion rand. Roughly 85% of that is earned in South Africa, yet the business operates in more than 35 countries, spanning other African markets as well as Brazil, Pakistan and Australia. In the portfolio, roughly 65% of earnings from the digital ecosystems cluster - basically the non-distribution technology businesses - are produced outside South Africa.
