What changed
IMF members have elected Ian Foucher to one of the 25 executive director seats, according to a person with knowledge of the move. That person said he has been appointed as Canada's representative on the board and noted the IMF has not made the decision public yet.
Why the seat matters
At the IMF, executive directors usually represent groups of countries, play a role in evaluating the fund's work on economic policy, and vote on financing requests intended to address short term balance of payments needs. In plain English: they help steer how and when IMF money moves.
