How SP Group plans to raise cash
Shapoorji Pallonji Group is exploring a fresh $150 million to $200 million raise through private credit, according to people with knowledge of the discussions. The structure under consideration is additional rupee bonds tied to a July issuance by Eqyizen Investment Pvt., an SP Group unit.
Talks are still preliminary, the people said, so both the amount and the terms may shift. The goal is straightforward: trim debt at Porteast Investment Ltd. and relieve pressure on the group's loan to value ratio - a simple measure of debt against the value of pledged assets.
Why the group says it needs the cash
About half of the new raise is earmarked to pay creditors of Porteast Investment Ltd., with the balance slated for other obligations across the group, the people said. Representatives for SP Group did not provide immediate comment.
The financing push comes as more maturities approach while the group waits to unlock value from assets, including its sizable holding in Tata Sons Pvt. That timing is complicated by an internal fight at Tata over whether to pursue a public listing. SP Group is controlled by the Mistry family, which owns roughly 18.4 percent of Tata Sons, making it the second largest shareholder.

What investors should watch
People familiar said that in September, SP Group secured roughly 44.5 billion rupees (equal to $467 million) through Eqyizen and a distinct dollar bond issued by Mercury Finance Co. Those funds went toward amortization payments due at Porteast.
The timeline now matters. The group is aiming to complete the latest financing by mid November, but with negotiations still early, size and pricing could move. The bottom line: the raise is designed to de risk near term liabilities and support collateral ratios, with the Tata Sons stake and any listing decision still a key swing factor for your portfolio exposure to the group's credit and equity linkages.
