Profit recovery amid softer top line
Porsche reported third quarter results on Tuesday, highlighting a sharp turnaround in operating profit to 1.74 billion euros for the year through September 2026. That compares with just 40 million euros in the same stretch last year, when it recorded about 2.7 billion euros of strategic restructuring charges. In contrast, revenue fell by 5.9% to 25.28 billion euros; deliveries were off 16% to 178,532 vehicles. North America remained the company's largest market by units.
China recalibration and competitive heat
The company says it has pulled back its risk to China to make the business less tied to that market's swings. China has long mattered to German luxury brands, but homegrown rivals have turned up the pressure, especially in electric cars. Porsche's sales in China have dropped sharply in recent years as competition from BYD, Geely and Xiaomi has intensified.
"Our geographically balanced sales footprint continues to provide resilience across different markets," CFO Jochen Breckner said Tuesday. "As you know, we have significantly reduced our exposure to China. This makes our overall business less dependent on developments from this challenging market environment."

Restructuring and shares
Porsche is also eliminating thousands of positions as part of a broader cost reset and to address softer demand. Shares were last up 2.3%.
What analysts are watching
Citi called the first nine months broadly in line despite the China drag and other headwinds, noting that underlying EBIT - profit from operations - remains solid, outperforming German premium peers. The bank says Porsche aims to restore double digit underlying operating margins, with recovery beginning in 2028, and expects net cash flow to climb above its IPO level by 2031. One caveat from Citi: fiscal 2027 is still a trough year.
The bottom line: Porsche is leaning on a more balanced regional mix while it restructures for efficiency. For portfolios, that sets up a patience game - weaker volumes now, with a clearer profit and cash flow path kicking in from 2028.
