What changed
Braskem said it provided certain debt holders and investors with information on multiple restructuring proposals tied to an $11 billion out-of-court rework. The package covered an updated business plan, a company proposal, and a separate plan submitted by investors.
Where talks stand
Braskem reported that, following multiple meetings with major shareholders and investors, none of the proposals were accepted and the parties have yet to reach agreement on the restructuring terms. "Braskem expects to continue discussions and negotiations with the investors regarding the terms of the updated plan and remains committed to engaging with the Investors and its other financial creditors," it said.
The backdrop
Latin America's largest petrochemical producer is carrying heavy debt after a global industry downturn and a catastrophe linked to its salt-mining operations in northeastern Brazil. In August, Braskem filed for so-called extrajudicial recovery, seeking to restructure its debt.
