CMOC profit jumps 68% on copper surge, tops 24 billion yuan in nine months

Summary:
  • CMOC's net income over the first three quarters rose 68% to 24 billion yuan ($3.6 billion), per a Friday report.
  • Third-quarter profit increased 40% year over year to 7.87 billion yuan as copper volumes and prices climbed, alongside higher molybdenum and tungsten prices.
  • Copper output hit about 209,000 tons in Q3, the second straight quarter above 200,000 tons, and the company added aluminum and iron ore trading this year.

Earnings and the price story

CMOC Group Ltd. said net income reached 24 billion yuan for the first three quarters, up 68% from a year earlier. A WeChat post from the company noted that total has already exceeded its full-year 2025 net income. The July to September period contributed 7.87 billion yuan, a 40% annual increase, according to the report released Friday.

Market drivers

Management tied the stronger results to more copper sold at better prices, with an additional lift from rising molybdenum and tungsten prices. So far this year, copper is up roughly 15% and set a record in September, supported by hefty shipments headed to the US amid speculation that the Trump administration will impose a levy on refined supplies. Supply issues at some producers, including in Chile, have also helped fuel the rally.

Production and new activities

In the three months through September, copper production was around 209,000 tons, based on Bloomberg calculations from CMOC's reports. That marks a second consecutive quarter above 200,000 tons. The company also said on WeChat that it added aluminum and iron ore trading this year.

What it means for your portfolio

Higher volumes and prices delivered both earnings growth and operational momentum. If copper's record run holds and output stays above 200,000 tons a quarter, CMOC's profit sensitivity to the metal remains the key swing factor to watch.

  • Research works best as one input in a process you own. The grade shows how a stock stacks up. You supply the goal, the timeline, and the rules for being wrong.
