The Boring Company's latest raise has a UAE-flavored guest list
Vy Capital is back in The Boring Company's cap table, participating in the Series D together with Shamal Holding, an entity that invests for Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum. According to a Thursday statement, the tunneling startup said the raise came to $3 billion and had support from the United Arab Emirates as well as related investment entities. While Boring counts prominent investors such as Sequoia Capital, A16Z and Temasek among its backers, the new round specifically highlights Vy and Shamal's participation.
What's Vy Capital and why haven't you heard of it?
Headquartered in Dubai, Vy was founded in 2013 by former Goldman Sachs executives Alexander Tamas and Mateusz Szeszkowski with a mission to "invest in some of the world's leading companies and own them for decades." Its website is just one page that defines "Vy" as the optimal climb speed in aviation to maximize altitude gain over time, and it shares no details on investors or holdings.
Deep ties to Musk's companies and to UAE power centers
Over the past decade, Vy has repeatedly backed Musk-led companies, participating in multiple rounds for both The Boring Company and Neuralink Corp. Its crown jewel is a $40 billion position in SpaceX, making Vy the No. 5 shareholder behind Alphabet Inc. and Fidelity Institutional Asset Management, per Bloomberg News data. The firm's network also runs through the Gulf: founder Alexander Tamas sits on a digital economy advisory council named by Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. In Abu Dhabi, International Holding Co. - a $220 billion group under the oversight of Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan - earlier bought into a Vy-managed fund.

Why this matters for your money
A quiet Dubai firm with close UAE links just joined a $3 billion raise for a Musk venture and sits among the largest SpaceX shareholders. That is one more sign that deep pools of global capital - including sovereign-adjacent money - are still chasing frontier tech. If you are mapping where patient capital is flowing, this is a breadcrumb worth noting.
