Energy Transfer set to shift main listing to the Texas Stock Exchange

What happened

Energy Transfer LP is preparing to move its main stock listing to the Texas Stock Exchange, according to the Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the plan. The switch could come as early as next month. If completed, it would mark the largest company yet to move a primary listing from New York to Texas. Energy Transfer did not answer questions about the report, and TXSE declined to comment.

Why it matters

For the young Texas venue, landing a company of this size would be a statement win as it tries to chip away at the NYSE and Nasdaq's grip on U.S. equity listings. TXSE has already attracted exchange-traded funds and is openly trying to bring in more companies to list there.

Who is backing TXSE

According to Bloomberg's report from last year, a vehicle tied to Energy Transfer's chairman and billionaire, Kelcy Warren, held a 28% stake in TXSE Group Inc. The TXSE roster of backers also spans Citadel Securities, BlackRock Inc., Fortress, Susquehanna Private Equity Investments, Charles Schwab Corp., and Michael Dell's family office.
