The deal and Duffield's role
Ridgeline, which builds software for investment-management firms, secured $250 million at a valuation of $1.4 billion. The round was led by co-founder and chairman David Duffield and included outside investors, the company said. Since founding the company in 2017, Duffield has backed it heavily with personal capital, contributing more than $400 million.
Strategy and the AI push
"We see what's happening with AI and we see the opportunity for what we could accomplish," Chief Executive Officer David Blair said. He added that Ridgeline decided to pour significant resources into research and development, describing that emphasis as the basis for the funding.
Footprint and scale
Blair said he and Duffield meet weekly for breakfast in Incline Village, a northern Nevada town on Lake Tahoe that Duffield calls home. The company maintains a site in Incline Village and additional offices in Reno, New York City, and the San Francisco Bay Area. The team now exceeds 600 people, and client assets under management committed to the platform are above $750 billion, a 50% increase from the prior year. Ridgeline projects that the platform will top $1 trillion by the end of January 2027.
Duffield's track record and what's next
Duffield has founded six companies, with PeopleSoft and Workday Inc. going public. The Bloomberg Billionaires Index estimates his net worth at $13.2 billion. His philanthropy spans multiple efforts, among them a fund that bears the name of his late miniature schnauzer. Looking ahead, Blair said he "would love" to see Ridgeline eventually become the third company founded by Duffield to list on the public markets.

Why it matters for your money
A founder still writing big checks at 85, doubling down on R&D, and a platform pacing toward the trillion mark hints at a patient build, not a quick flip. If you track fintech and enterprise software, watch whether Ridgeline turns those client commitments into deeper features and revenue traction. That momentum is what filters down into valuations and, eventually, the tech your financial advisor might be using to manage your savings.
