Chery lines up four new models for the UK as Jaecoo 7 buzz builds

Summary:
  • Chery's own-brand lineup is being readied to add four UK models over the next year.
  • On Friday, the automaker said it will aim the Tiggo X SUV range at British families, with an electric version included.
  • Chinese carmakers now control more than a fifth of the UK market; Chery has hit 2.5% in under a year, while sister brand Jaecoo reached 4.3% last month.

What Chery announced and when

Chery is preparing to bring four models to UK showrooms over the next 12 months, a push meant to ride the momentum of its sister brand's Jaecoo 7. Separately on Friday, the company said it will court British families with a Tiggo X lineup of SUVs, and that range will feature an electric option.

How the brands are performing in the UK

Chery's badge has quickly carved out a 2.5% share of the UK market in less than a year. The broader backdrop: Chinese manufacturers collectively have grown their UK presence to more than 20%. Inside the Chery group specifically, Jaecoo is doing the heavy lifting, hitting 4.3% last month.

The Jaecoo 7 and how shoppers see Chinese cars

The Jaecoo 7 now ranks among the UK's best sellers and has picked up the "Temu Range Rover" tag for offering a lower priced take on the British luxury SUV. Chery UK's country director, Farrell Hsu, said, "Before, people think about Chinese products and think we are cheap," "But now we are different because we provide better products with a little cheaper price." Hsu also called the UK "a more open market" than places like Germany and France because there is no domestic mass market champion, which he said leaves buyers less tied to local brands and more willing to consider Asian options.

Expansion, factory talks, and the shifting backdrop

Chery has started selling its SUVs in France this month as it pushes deeper into Europe. The brand also plans to lean harder into hybrids, noting some drivers are still wary of going full electric while charging networks remain inconsistent. The timing is notable: Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Plc is cutting 4,000 jobs to stay competitive, dealing Prime Minister Andy Burnham's new government a setback in its effort to revive British industry.

On manufacturing, the Chery group this year inked an agreement with Nissan Motor Co. to consider joint use of the Japanese company's Sunderland plant. There are worries the UK could be left out of the European Union's "Made in Europe" proposals, which could complicate that plan. Building cars in Sunderland is "still under discussion," Hsu said.

Industry shifts are reminders that steady planning helps protect and grow your money. What this means for your portfolio

Chinese automakers are scaling up in the UK with aggressively priced, tech-forward models, and Chery's next wave fits that pattern. Add in a bigger hybrid bet, fresh sales in France, and the open question of local production in Sunderland, and you have a clear marker of where car demand and industrial policy are colliding. If you have exposure to autos or suppliers, watch how market share, model mix, and any UK manufacturing decisions evolve through the next year.

New product waves highlight the value of calm, diversified decisions for long term savings. Our CEO Jaspreet Singh is hosting a FREE live investor workshop, How to Profit From A Dollar That's Losing its Value, on September 29th. Sign up free to join him live.

US National Debt Hits $40 Trillion: Why the Economy Hasn't Collapsed Yet

Your 401k Is Fueling the AI Bubble

Why Is Everything So Expensive? Why Prices May Never Come Back Down
  • Official inflation is 3.4% and prices are up 32% since 2020, but rent (41%), gas (47%), car insurance (64%) and ground beef (79%) all outran the 28% median wage.

  • Investors who simply owned the S&P 500 gained about 150% over the same six years, and the Fed's September 16 decision will show whether it protects the dollar or the economy first.
