HeyDude's turnaround
HeyDude, the casual loafer label Crocs bought in 2022, is resonating again with its core base of 30- and 40-something men. Sales were up about 6% last quarter, breaking a six-quarter slide, as the company cleared excess inventory at retailers, sold more products at full price, and opened additional brand-owned stores.
That rebound complements steady momentum at the Crocs namesake line, which accounts for about 80% of company revenue and continues to be led by its colorful clogs. Andrew Rees, Crocs's chief executive officer, told analysts on a Thursday call, "We're encouraged by the trajectory of HeyDude." "The work we did over the past 12 months to clean up the marketplace, focus on our core consumer and sharpen our marketing created short-term pressure, but is now translating into a broader-based growth opportunity."
Results and guidance got better
Crocs delivered quarterly sales and earnings that exceeded Wall Street forecasts, and management lifted full-year targets for both measures. A key driver of the outlook change: HeyDude is now projected to have roughly flat revenue for the year, compared with earlier guidance that permitted a drop of up to 4%.
Market reaction and why it matters
Investors cheered the reset. The stock climbed up to 26% on Thursday, marking its largest intraday swing since 2020. Even before that pop, the stock was already up 40% this year, outpacing the S&P Midcap 400 Index's 11% gain.
