Management push to reassure staff
JetBlue executives again told employees the airline is not planning a Chapter 11 filing, part of a broader effort to show it can absorb surging fuel costs and manage its debt. Referencing a spike in jet-fuel costs linked to the US war with Iran, CFO Ursula Hurley told an all-employee call that Bloomberg News reviewed that the carrier has ample cash and is "in a financially stable place."
Performance and investor concerns
Shares jumped after the third quarter report, clawing back losses from the run-up to the print, though the stock is still down nearly 20% for the year. A JetBlue representative declined to comment.
Last week, CEO Joanna Geraghty reaffirmed targets: operating profitability in 2027 and, in 2028, at least $1 in earnings per share plus positive free cash flow. Wall Street has been watching the company's finances more closely following the shutdown of rival Spirit Airlines earlier this year.

Credit picture and market attention
JetBlue has roughly $9 billion in debt and is drawing increasing scrutiny from creditors. They have been working with PJT Partners and Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, representing a creditor cohort comprising holders of $2 billion in notes maturing in 2031 along with a first-lien loan of $742 million.
For your portfolio, the markers to track are oil prices, JetBlue's use of asset-backed financing to add liquidity, and whether the 2027 to 2028 profitability path holds.
