What changed at Valencia
A group that counts KKR co-founders Henry Kravis and George Roberts among its backers said Friday it has purchased a 42% holding in Valencia CF, valuing the club at €1.25 billion, or about $1.4 billion. The purchaser is Pitchwise Holdings, a group made up of family-office and institutional capital and fronted by sports leaders Ann Rodriguez and Corey Woolfolk, and it is taking the shares from Meriton Holdings.
The club's controlling stake stays with Meriton, which is under the control of Singaporean billionaire Peter Lim. Kiat Lim, his son, is set to stay on as president and will join the revamped ownership lineup.
The cash and the on-field backdrop
The investor group will provide €100 million in fresh funding that is available for immediate use at the club. On the pitch, Valencia has struggled during the Lim family's tenure since 2014 and currently sits second-from-bottom in La Liga.
Stadium plans and the 2030 World Cup angle
Valencia still plays at the Mestalla, but preparations are underway for a move to Nou Mestalla, designed for 70,000 spectators. Pitchwise said the upgrade matches the ambitions of Spain's third largest city and comes as the country is set to co-host the FIFA World Cup in 2030.

Why Wall Street cares
Institutional money keeps flowing into elite football assets. Among recent examples: Atletico Madrid's majority owner has been Apollo Global Management Inc. dating back to March 2026; Chelsea FC is owned by Clearlake Capital Group; AC Milan is controlled by RedBird Capital Partners LP; the parent company of Manchester City counts Silver Lake Capital as a minority investor; and Liverpool FC has Dynasty Equity in a minority role. As George Roberts put it, "We have gotten to know Kiat very well and believe that this new partnership and Valencia represents the most exciting opportunity in European football." He added, "We look forward to supporting Ann, Corey and Kiat as they take the club into a bright future."
