The compute push
People briefed on internal discussions told CNBC that TikTok USDS Joint Venture, which operates the app in the U.S., has been assessing ways to secure multi gigawatts of capacity over the next several years. One of those people said the goal is roughly four gigawatts by the start of the next decade, a sign of how AI workloads are reshaping demand for data center power worldwide.
Job listings back that up. The company has many open roles tied to machine learning, and one posting says TikTok is "shipping a flagship B2B AI product at the frontier of large-model inference and creative automation."
Oracle remains the anchor
A company spokesperson said TikTok U.S. primarily uses Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and that Oracle will stay its main cloud provider. Oracle generally operates OCI out of data centers it rents. CNBC said it asked Oracle to comment.
In January, the company announced plans to use U.S. user data to "retrain, test, and update" its recommendation algorithm, adding that the algorithm would be "secured in Oracle's U.S. cloud environment."

Ownership and the U.S. setup
TikTok USDS Joint Venture was created in 2026 to meet former President Donald Trump's executive order that required the U.S. business to be separated from ByteDance. Its governance names Silver Lake, Oracle, and MGX as the three managing investors, each holding 15%. ByteDance retained a 19.9% stake, and the Dell Family Office - the investment arm of Michael Dell - participates as an investor.
Why does that matter? If TikTok U.S. lands the compute it is seeking while keeping Oracle as the core platform, it points to sustained infrastructure spending tied to AI training and inference - a tailwind for data center power, cloud leasing, and chip demand that could ripple across related suppliers in your portfolio.
