Amazon adds six Arianespace launches as Europe's space push hits high gear and politics

Summary:
  • Amazon booked six more Arianespace launches Wednesday in Paris, bringing its total with the European launcher to 24 as it builds a satellite network to compete with Starlink.
  • Europe's space scene is surging: Isar Aerospace reached orbit, The Exploration Company raised $450 million, and Marlan Space with Loft Orbital announced a $1 billion, 50-satellite plan with Mistral as a partner.
  • The summit also showed political frictions, with top European absences and U.S. firms reportedly staying away after Washington raised concerns about the event's policy agenda.

Amazon's new launches and Europe's lift

Amazon's latest six-launch order with Arianespace, announced at the International Space Summit in Paris, takes its total bookings there to 24. Arianespace is part of ArianeGroup, a joint venture owned by Airbus and Safran. CEO David Cavaillolès said Wednesday that long-term deals from customers like Amazon help Europe deploy critical space infrastructure. He also argued Europe must speed up how often it flies and said the war in Ukraine has turned space sovereignty into an urgent issue, telling the summit: "You cannot win a war if you are not strong in space."

The new business hands Europe's space sector a clear commercial boost at a moment when governments are pumping more money into sovereign capabilities and Amazon is building a network meant to challenge SpaceX's Starlink.

Money and momentum in Europe's space market

It is not just talk. Last week, on just its second mission, Germany's Isar Aerospace put satellites into orbit, marking it as the first commercial European company to do so. In June, the company raised 270 million euros to ramp production and widen its launch footprint.

Fresh capital is flowing elsewhere too. This week, The Exploration Company announced a $450 million Series C, while Marlan Space and Loft Orbital unveiled plans for a $1 billion program to build a 50-satellite, AI-enabled constellation that includes French AI firm Mistral among its partners.

The numbers back it up. According to the European Space Policy Institute, private funding for European space startups reached an all-time high of 1.5 billion euros ($1.75 billion) in 2024, a 56% increase over 2023. In 2025, overall investment edged down 8% to 1.4 billion euros, yet venture funding climbed 13% to 1.2 billion euros. As Seraphim Space CEO Mark Boggett put it, "It's a technology boom as opposed to a technology bubble," and "The recent IPO of SpaceX is really the inflection point for this market really starting to take off."

Big industry shifts remind investors that steady planning helps protect and grow savings. Summit optics: who skipped and why that matters

France partnered with Germany to host the event, but German Chancellor Friedrich Merz was absent, as was Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. U.S. names were thin on the ground. According to reports, SpaceX and Blue Origin pulled out after the Trump administration encouraged U.S. firms to avoid the gathering, citing worries about the summit's European policy agenda. According to Reuters, the U.S. Office of Science and Technology Policy convened a call cautioning that showing up might be interpreted as backing positions the U.S. opposes, said people who requested anonymity.

Not everyone bought that interpretation. Philip Johnston, CEO of Starcloud, told CNBC the company stayed away because of a scheduling clash and emphasized the choice was unrelated to the U.S. government. Starcloud, headquartered in the U.S., develops solar-powered data centers located in space.

CNBC asked the White House for comment on the reports, but received no response. Requests for comment to SpaceX and Blue Origin about the reasons for their withdrawals went unanswered.

Coordination, sovereignty, and what to watch

Momentum is real, but scale is the test. Isar's Chief Commercial Officer Stella Guillen told CNBC that, for continued expansion, Europe must add more launch pads and the infrastructure that goes with them. And European Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius welcomed the investment while warning that if countries chase purely national strategies, it could blunt Europe's broader ambitions. As he said Wednesday: "We need to really spend a lot of our efforts to keep this unity on European level, to make our systems interoperable."

For your wallet, here is the practical read: bigger orders like Amazon's, record venture flows, and new orbital milestones point to fuller backlogs and busier factories across Europe's launch and satellite suppliers. The watchouts are all about execution speed and coordination. Politics, launch cadence, and ground infrastructure will decide how fast those bookings turn into revenue. Following who is landing contracts, adding capacity, and navigating policy cleanly is how you separate durable growth from shiny headlines.

Watching global developments calmly can lead to smarter choices for preserving wealth. Our CEO Jaspreet Singh is hosting a FREE live investor workshop, How to Profit From A Dollar That's Losing its Value, on September 29th. Sign up free to join him live.

US National Debt Hits $40 Trillion: Why the Economy Hasn't Collapsed Yet
  • The US national debt crossed $40 trillion in 2026 and is growing faster than the economy. The debt to GDP ratio now sits at 125%, the highest outside the pandemic and higher than World War II.
  • On September 9, 2026, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent rolled out an emergency plan for the government to lend money to itself. Ray Dalio now says the dollar has roughly three years before real pain.

Your 401k Is Fueling the AI Bubble
  • About $10 trillion of 401k money sits in a $77 trillion stock market, mostly through target date funds and S&P 500 funds. Roughly 30% of every S&P 500 dollar lands in five AI-heavy tech stocks.
  • Four bubble signals run hotter today than before the 2000 crash: top-ten concentration, tech's share of the index, the Buffett Indicator, and how much of the market index funds own.
  • You only lock in an AI bubble loss if you sell. The 2022, 2020, 2008, and 2000 crashes were all buying windows for long-term investors, and the US-China AI race means government money could keep flowing in.

What Is Wealth Preservation? How To Protect Your Money From Anything
  • Wealth preservation is an investing strategy built around keeping the money you've already made instead of chasing growth.
  • It leans on assets that hold steady when markets fall - gold, Treasury bonds, and companies that keep earning through wars, crashes, and pandemics.
  • The tradeoff is real: you give up some upside, and the two key numbers to check are maximum drawdown and correlation to the market.

Why Is Everything So Expensive? Why Prices May Never Come Back Down
  • Official inflation is 3.4% and prices are up 32% since 2020, but rent (41%), gas (47%), car insurance (64%) and ground beef (79%) all outran the 28% median wage.
  • The Federal Reserve targets 2% inflation on purpose. Rising prices push extra dollars to investors and shrink the real cost of a $40 trillion national debt.
  • Investors who simply owned the S&P 500 gained about 150% over the same six years, and the Fed's September 16 decision will show whether it protects the dollar or the economy first.

An Interest Rate Hike in 2026? The Fed Just Broke Its Own Script
  • The Federal Reserve spent a year signaling cheaper money, and its new chairman just warned that an interest rate hike may be coming instead.
  • The Fed is stuck between high inflation and a weak job market, and fixing one makes the other worse.
  • Higher rates also reprice roughly a third of America's $40 trillion national debt this year, which is why Washington wants cuts so badly.

America Is Running Out of Debt Buyers. Treasury Bills Are the Government's Fix
  • The government took in about $5 trillion in taxes in 2025 and spent about $7 trillion, and the national debt is now over $40 trillion.
  • Investors, banks, and foreign countries are all lending less to the U.S., so starting September 9 the government plans to sell more short-term treasury bills and use that cash to buy back its long-term debt.
