What Snapchat Plans Does
If your group chat always dies at "who's in?", Snapchat Plans aims to fix that. The new tools make it simple to turn chats into real-world plans like birthday parties and study sessions, and they are built around a pattern Snap sees in the US: roughly one-third of Snapchat's young users already organize plans in group chats and DMs, the company said in a Thursday blog post.
Hosts can set up private, invite-only events for as many as 200 friends. A fresh My Plans section on profiles corrals every commitment in one place so you can see what you have coming up at a glance.
How This Fits Snap's Broader Push
Snap keeps stretching beyond disappearing snaps into products that keep people engaged. It has added paid options such as Snapchat+, which offers perks available only to subscribers, and Memories, a photo-and-video backup service. Those subscriptions have helped reduce how much the company leans on advertising.
Snap plans to begin offering its inaugural augmented reality glasses, called Specs, for $2,195 on Sept. 16. In last month's earnings update, the company projected a positive outlook for the current period, hinting at confidence ahead of its AI-powered wearables' commercial debut.

Why It Matters For Your Portfolio
Snap is working to stand apart from the biggest social platforms at a time when Meta Platforms Inc., Google's YouTube, and TikTok are contending with major nationwide lawsuits that accuse them of deliberately shaping their products to hook young people. Snap has been trying to show "the rest of the world that we're not social media," and that Snapchat was "built as an alternative" from its early days.
