What happened
Royal Bank of Canada has brought on Dan Mills as a managing director to oversee rates sales in Canada. He will sit in Toronto and report into Harleen Bains, who leads global markets sales in Canada. RBC confirmed the move through a spokesperson.
Who he is
Mills most recently spent over 11 years with Bank of America in Toronto. Before that, his LinkedIn profile shows an earlier 8-year run at RBC. A spokesperson for Bank of America declined to comment on the change.

Why it matters
Bains said his "deep client connectivity and breadth of product knowledge will be immediately additive to how we service clients." The timing also follows Kam Bath's exit; earlier this year he moved from RBC to TD Securities after holding the title of managing director within fixed income sales. For clients, an experienced hand in rates can influence how the bank engages on interest rate products and market ideas in a cycle where every basis point still counts.
