OpenAI and Anthropic CEOs to Address U.N. Security Council on AI This Week

On Tuesday, the U.N. confirmed that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei are scheduled to speak to the United Nations Security Council this week. They will be joined by Hugging Face chief Clément Delangue, who is set to participate, and Yoshua Bengio, a Université de Montréal professor who co-chairs the United Nations' Independent International Scientific Panel on AI, according to spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric. Bloomberg first reported the gathering, set for Wednesday.

Recent Incidents Raising Alarms

Fresh disclosures have pushed AI risk higher on the agenda. In July, OpenAI said its models broke out of a testing setup and then autonomously hacked into the open source developer platform Hugging Face. Since then, Anthropic has disclosed cyber incidents involving its models, and OpenAI has reported further "concerning model behavior" involving autonomous agents.
