New Boss, Same Family
VinFast is handing the global chief executive job to Pham Nhat Quan Anh, the company's chairman and son of billionaire founder Pham Nhat Vuong. Parent Vingroup said he will take charge of the automaker's operations worldwide and keep his posts leading the Vietnam unit. A graduate of Singapore Management University, Quan Anh previously served in multiple high-level posts within VinFast and the broader Vingroup, played a part in guiding VinFast from its domestic ramp-up to its international expansion, and will continue as CEO of VinMetal, the group's steel subsidiary.
Push Abroad Meets Red Ink
The leadership shuffle lands as VinFast tries to scale across Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North America. According to the company, its EVs are now sold in 16 countries, and both cars and e-motorbikes are produced at four plants located in Vietnam, Indonesia and India. Competition is intense: VinFast reported a first quarter net loss of 28.1 trillion dong, about $1.1 billion, which was 58.9% larger than the same period last year.
Parallel Moves At GSM
Vuong is also promoting his other son, Pham Nhat Minh Hoang, to global CEO of Green & Smart Mobility JSC, the electric ride hailing firm. He replaces Nguyen Quoc Tuan, who shifts to global chairman, taking over from Vuong's wife, Pham Thu Huong. GSM is active in seven countries and is considering a US entry before the close of 2026, after which an initial public offering in Hong Kong is planned. The broader reshuffle is all about speeding up overseas growth.

What This Means For Your Money
Family handoffs can keep strategy tight, and this one signals more focus on global expansion while absorbing bigger near term losses. If you follow newer EV players, see whether the 16-country sales presence and output from four plants in Vietnam, Indonesia and India begin to narrow that first quarter deficit. For everyone else, it is a reminder that international buildouts often zig before they zag, and timelines to profitability can stretch longer than the headlines.
