What Aumovio reported
Frankfurt-based Aumovio, formerly part of Continental AG, produces vehicle radar, cameras, and in-car cockpit electronics. Its semiconductors sit inside braking systems, vehicle computers and other electronic control units for customers including BMW, Volkswagen, Ford and BYD.
On a Thursday call with analysts, interim finance head Claus Bauer said AI data centers are pulling in supply at volumes and prices that automotive buyers struggle to match. He said chip suppliers could end up selling twice as much capacity to data centers and that the segment has "no price sensitivity whatsoever." Aumovio sees little relief from that demand next year, though Bauer noted power generation limits could eventually slow the buildout.
Financial hit and company response
Bauer said higher material costs, particularly for semiconductors, will drag earnings by roughly €1 billion ($1.1 billion) next year. Because Aumovio revisits supplier terms every year, prices can undergo sizable changes as each new year begins.
To soften the blow, Aumovio plans to raise prices for customers to cover part of the increase and pursue product redesigns and broader spending cuts to offset the rest.

Why it matters for investors
Aumovio's warning links the auto supply chain to the AI infrastructure boom. As data centers bid up chips, traditional buyers face higher input costs and tighter availability. Bauer said the pressure has been barely visible so far but could "explode" in 2027, framing the timeline for margin risk across auto suppliers and their OEM customers. The bottom line: monitor whether prices are repriced as each year kicks off, and whether power constraints eventually cool data center expansion enough to ease chip inflation.
