What Apple announced
Apple rolled out a new 24-inch iMac alongside a lower-priced 14-inch MacBook Pro, part of a broader, end-to-end refresh of its computer lineup. The designs look familiar, but the internals switch to the M6, which had its first public outing in September in the Mac mini.
The iMac moves up from an M4 chip, while last year's base 14-inch MacBook Pro carried the M5 before today's step to M6. Apple says the latest iMac runs AI tasks at five times the speed of the 2024 version, and the entry MacBook Pro delivers a 30% graphics gain over the prior model.
Timing, pricing, and features
Preorders begin Wednesday, and Apple says deliveries start Nov. 6, in line with the updated iPad mini launched Monday. Prices start at $1,499 for the iMac and $1,999 for the 14-inch entry MacBook Pro.
Both the iMac and 14-inch MacBook Pro add Bluetooth 6 and WiFi 7. The laptop also gets faster charging. Apple is keeping higher-end M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pros on shelves, whose CPU and GPU capabilities surpass those of the entry M6 models.

What comes next
This is day two of announcements: on Monday, Apple introduced a reworked iPad mini that features a new screen and water resistance. Bloomberg reports the week wraps Wednesday with Apple's first MacBook Pro that has a touch screen, described as lighter, a bit thinner, with slimmer display borders and an OLED panel.
The roadmap stretches further. Apple is preparing updated MacBook Neo and MacBook Air models slated for the first six months of next year, a redesigned low-end MacBook Pro, and plans to introduce its first M7, M7 Pro, and M7 Max chips in 2027. An M7 Ultra and a new Mac Studio are planned for 2028.
Why it matters for your portfolio
The strategy is clear: move the entry tier to M6 while the premium 14-inch and 16-inch Macs stick with M5 Pro and M5 Max, then layer in touch and OLED to entice upgrades. That sets up a staggered performance ladder and a steady refresh cycle that can support average selling prices without losing budget-conscious buyers. The bottom line: watch AI performance claims, the new wireless stack, and the expected touch MacBook Pro as potential demand drivers into the Nov. 6 on-sale date and beyond.
