What Kalshi is changing
Kalshi Inc. plans to let some clients keep their crypto where it is, borrow against it, and use the cash for margin on perpetuals traded on Kalshi's main venue. The arrangement pairs Kalshi with BitGo Holdings Inc., with customer assets custodied at BitGo and loan proceeds flowing to the futures account.
Financing will be provided by Kalshi Katalyst, an affiliate of Kalshi Prime, and secured by assets at BitGo Bank & Trust. It uses a tri-party arrangement in which collateral operations are overseen by three roles: the borrower, the lender, and a third-party agent.
Who might use it and why it matters
Kalshi Prime CEO Jeff Bandman said borrowers could pledge Bitcoin, Ether, or stablecoins that meet Genius Act compliance. "What we wanted to do was make it possible for customers to stay in crypto," he said, citing investors who prefer not to sell Bitcoin and a Latin American company that runs on US-dollar stablecoins.
Bandman said the move could help attract crypto-native trading firms and "whales," a group for which Kalshi appears to face an inherent disadvantage relative to Polymarket, an offshore, blockchain-based exchange. "I built this because I was thinking about digitally native customers who are active and who might already be trading perpetual futures in some of the unregulated offshore markets," he said. "That was kind of the audience that I was envisioning, but now that we've built it, what's fascinating is hearing these other use cases come out of the woodwork."

How this fits Kalshi's product push
Kalshi began offering perpetual futures earlier this year - contracts with no expiration - tied to gold, silver and cryptocurrencies. Trading tied to those perpetuals was about $1.1 billion on Tuesday, according to DefiLlama data.
The company has asked regulators to allow perpetual-style products linked to oil and US stocks. And last month, Kalshi Klear filed with the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission to seek approval to extend margin on select event contracts.
The bottom line for your portfolio
In plain English: if you trade on Kalshi and hold crypto, this creates a way to fund futures margin without selling coins, with collateral kept at BitGo Bank & Trust. For Kalshi, courting deep-pocketed, crypto-native flow could mean thicker order books and potentially tighter spreads across its perpetuals.
