The deal in brief
According to a Wednesday statement, Ares Management Corp. is teaming up with Norway's sovereign wealth fund to purchase €1.5 billion of warehouse properties throughout Europe. It represents the first-ever collaboration of the $2.2 trillion fund with the alternative asset manager.
Who does what
Ares will rely on its Marq Logistics platform to find acquisitions and operate the properties in the venture. With an equity commitment of €1.5 billion, Norges Bank Investment Management will have a 96% stake.
Scale and strategy
Under new boss Alex Knapp, the Norwegian fund has been reshaping its real estate approach, moving beyond splashy trophy assets to broaden its holdings. As Knapp put it, "This partnership gives us access to both standing assets and development opportunities, and we look forward to building a long-lasting partnership." The fund's existing holdings include about €11.5 billion in logistics assets spread across Europe and North America.
