Agility Robotics' new Digit 5 is built to work shoulder to shoulder with people

Summary:
  • Agility Robotics introduced Digit 5, a humanoid built to operate safely beside people instead of behind safety cages.
  • Operating at nine customer locations with over 65,000 hours logged, the firm has amassed about $300 million worth of multiyear commitments for Digit.
  • Agility aims to list this year by combining with Churchill Capital Corp XI, implying a $2.5 billion valuation.

What Agility announced

Agility Robotics, based in Salem, Oregon, rolled out the Digit 5 on Tuesday and framed it for mixed human robot workplaces. That matters in a field that usually keeps humanoids cordoned off. Daniel Diez, the company's chief business officer, said the new machine reflects what customers asked for through real world use, adding, "You cannot put 150 robots into a warehouse where every one of them has to be surrounded by a 10-by-20 plexiglass set of walls." Earlier versions, including the Digit 4 that became known for stacking plastic bins, had to work behind physical safety barriers.

What Digit 5 can do and how it stays safe

Digit 5 is intended for more demanding chores like loading materials into equipment, sorting parts, sequencing, and inspections, and it is built to do that close to people without fences. To pull that off, it uses AI driven software and new sensors to recognize when someone is nearby and then respond immediately, including stopping or sitting to prevent a collision. It also signals its movements with visual and audio cues, with a software safety controller coordinating those responses in real time. More broadly, legged humanoids like Digit can be less predictable and pose greater safety risks around people than similar machines that use wheels, which is why these controls matter.

The hardware upgrades

The newest Digit has redesigned legs aimed at repetitive lifting, lifting capacity per pick rising to 50 pounds from about 35 pounds. Its battery runs for 90 minutes and can be recharged in nine minutes, according to the company. The swappable end effector can be outfitted with a paddle, pincher, claw, or a five fingered artificial hand.

Business traction and what's next for investors

Agility says it is operating in nine customer facilities, including sites for Schaeffler AG, GXO Logistics Inc., and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc., with total operating time now exceeding 65,000 hours. According to the company, multiyear commitments for Digit are around $300 million, and it expects to begin scaling into Europe early next year. To go public this year, Agility intends to merge with Churchill Capital Corp XI, a special-purpose acquisition vehicle, in a deal that signals a $2.5 billion valuation.

In 2025, it generated about $1.8 million in revenue and recorded a $140 million operating loss. Investors have put $500 million into the company to date, and it is part of a broader humanoid wave that includes Chinese robotics firm Unitree, which listed in August on Shanghai's stock exchange.

What it means for your portfolio

"Everyone is obsessed with seeing these robots in the home, and what's needed is cooperative safety - the ability for the robot to work in close proximity with people," Diez said, adding that the company believes "that the path to getting to the home is through industry." The tells to keep an eye on are the simple ones: how many real deployments, hours in the field, the size of the order book, and whether the safety and lifting upgrades unlock broader adoption as the SPAC deal approaches. If those metrics rise and the European rollout hits, this starts to look less like a demo and more like a tool that actually earns its keep on the factory floor.

Fiat Currency Runs on Trust, and the World Just Stopped Trusting the Dollar
  • Gold has overtaken US treasuries as the world's top reserve asset, and central banks are now buying less US debt and more gold.
  • The US dollar is a fiat currency, meaning it's backed by a promise rather than gold, so it loses value when fewer countries want to hold it.

Why RAM Prices Are Soaring - and Where the Money Is Moving
  • Memory chips - the RAM inside phones, laptops, fridges, and trucks - are in a shortage Tim Cook called a 100-year flood, and some memory prices have climbed about 90% in a single quarter.
  • Four forces hit at once: AI demand, a production shutdown in 2023, build times that push any fix to 2028 at the earliest, and a bombed helium plant in Qatar.

How Is the Economy Doing? Washington Says It's Fixed, but the Numbers Don't Agree
  • Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says the economy is fixed because lower earners' incomes are now rising faster than top earners'.
  • The Atlanta Fed and Bank of America show different numbers, and Hilton, Marriott, and McDonald's can't agree on what they're seeing either.

US National Debt Hits $40 Trillion: Why the Economy Hasn't Collapsed Yet
  • The US national debt crossed $40 trillion in 2026 and is growing faster than the economy. The debt to GDP ratio now sits at 125%, the highest outside the pandemic and higher than World War II.
  • On September 9, 2026, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent rolled out an emergency plan for the government to lend money to itself. Ray Dalio now says the dollar has roughly three years before real pain.
  • Empires rarely default. They debase. Since 1971, median household income grew about 8x while houses grew 17x and the S&P 500 grew 360x, so investors got richer while workers fell behind.

Your 401k Is Fueling the AI Bubble
  • About $10 trillion of 401k money sits in a $77 trillion stock market, mostly through target date funds and S&P 500 funds. Roughly 30% of every S&P 500 dollar lands in five AI-heavy tech stocks.
  • Four bubble signals run hotter today than before the 2000 crash: top-ten concentration, tech's share of the index, the Buffett Indicator, and how much of the market index funds own.

What Is Wealth Preservation? How To Protect Your Money From Anything

Why Is Everything So Expensive? Why Prices May Never Come Back Down
  • Official inflation is 3.4% and prices are up 32% since 2020, but rent (41%), gas (47%), car insurance (64%) and ground beef (79%) all outran the 28% median wage.
  • The Federal Reserve targets 2% inflation on purpose. Rising prices push extra dollars to investors and shrink the real cost of a $40 trillion national debt.
  • Investors who simply owned the S&P 500 gained about 150% over the same six years, and the Fed's September 16 decision will show whether it protects the dollar or the economy first.
