What's happening
Carney's office said Saturday he'll be in Europe from Sept. 15 to 17, stopping in Strasbourg, France and Liverpool, England. The Liverpool visit includes his initial in-person meeting with Burnham, who took over as the UK's prime minister in July. In Strasbourg, Carney plans to be in the chamber for Ursula von der Leyen's state of the union address, then speak to European Union lawmakers the following day.
What they'll talk about
On the agenda: defense and security, energy policy, artificial intelligence, and the supply of critical minerals. The meeting comes as Canada and the EU are building out a sweeping framework to tighten ties across trade and security. That push is adding to the pressure on Burnham, who has been pursuing warmer relations with Brussels.

Why it matters for your money
Before heading to Europe, Carney attended a two-day investment summit in Toronto designed to draw more capital into Canada as it broadens its economic partnerships, set against the backdrop of President Donald Trump enacting yet another set of US tariffs. For everyday investors, that can shape where growth shows up next and which industries get tailwinds from policy momentum.
