What the bank announced
Toronto-Dominion Bank said that Taylan Turan, its Chief Operating Officer, will leave the position after roughly a year, creating a vacancy in a role the bank only recently created. Canada's second-largest bank did not disclose a reason or timeline for the change. He came to TD in September 2025 from HSBC Holdings Plc and reported to Chief Executive Officer Raymond Chun.
How Turan fit in
TD hasn't typically used a COO title. Raymond Chun, who became CEO last year, temporarily assumed the COO position in late 2024 and early 2025 while preparing to take the helm. In the announcement, Chun said, "I want to thank Taylan for his partnership and leadership and wish him the very best for the future."
Other executive moves to watch
Paul Whitehead will join TD's senior leadership group as the senior executive vice-president overseeing global corporate services. And Renu Gupta, now the chief financial officer at TD Securities, will become TD's chief strategy and commercial officer.

Why it matters
A vacancy in a role TD rarely uses suggests Chun is still shaping the org chart. Most customers won't notice a difference at the branch, but shifts in strategy and corporate services can influence where TD trims costs, invests in new tech, or pursues growth. Keeping an eye on execution under the refreshed leadership tells you how the bank plans to compete next.
