What's changing
Paramount Skydance Corp. plans to rename itself Skydance after it completes the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. In a Friday social post, Chief Executive Officer David Ellison said he did not want the new corporate brand to overshadow either of the merging businesses and framed the choice as a way to highlight both companies' portfolios.
Where the deal stands
Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery expect their $110 billion merger to close next week. In a separate matter, Paramount settled an antitrust suit initiated by a coalition of 12 state attorneys general, and a federal judge approved the agreement earlier this week.
Who is steering this
Ellison, the son of Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, combined his film and TV studio Skydance Media with Paramount in 2025. Earlier this year, the company prevailed over Netflix in a bidding contest for Warner Bros., setting the stage for the pending union and the planned Skydance banner.

Why it matters for your wallet
If you follow media, this is another reminder that scale and franchises still rule the business. A rebrand tied to a megamerger can reshape which libraries get promoted, how streaming bundles are packaged, and where new content shows up. For consumers and investors alike, expect plenty of attention on how the combined lineup performs once the Skydance name goes up.
