Fundraising and launch details
Augnition Global Investors kicked off trading this month after lining up more than $1 billion for its tech-heavy stock strategy. A Sept. 30 filing and people familiar with the matter indicate the fund started out with no less than $570 million, about 45% of which is internal capital, with remaining commitments slated to be drawn from clients over time.
Augnition's spokesperson declined to comment. The filing also notes an initial $25 million raised for a vehicle tied to cybersecurity firm Cyera.

Who Jeff Wang is and why it matters
Wang, 47, leaned on a Sequoia track record he outlined last year on LinkedIn: while he spent a decade at the helm of Sequoia's global equities unit, annualized returns were 17% and assets climbed to $9 billion from $600 million. A 2024 podcast cites his late-stage private investments at Sequoia in ByteDance Ltd., SpaceX, Stripe and Airbnb Inc. His LinkedIn profile says Augnition plans to invest in both public and private technology companies.
What this means for your portfolio
This raise stands out in a year many describe as one of the toughest to attract new money, with the biggest firms squeezing smaller entrants. Against that backdrop, a tech-focused fund launching with at least $570 million in hand and more commitments queued up is a signal of where investor appetite still shows up, especially in public and private tech names.
