NIIF Names Gauravjit Singh to Steer Global Fundraising

Summary:
  • India's quasi-sovereign wealth fund NIIF has tapped Gauravjit Singh to head capital formation globally as managing partner, tasking him with spearheading fundraising around the world.
  • The fund is widening its investor net from Japan to Europe, has secured approximately $3 billion in fresh commitments over the past two years, and says it ranks among the largest fundraisers focused on India's alternative assets.
  • Established in 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government, NIIF oversees roughly $7 billion in equity commitments and has outlined a plan to grow assets under management to $10 billion.

New hire and mandate

NIIF has brought on Gauravjit Singh to run capital formation at a global level, naming him managing partner and the organization's global head. His brief: deepen ties with current backers while expanding the asset manager's base of international and domestic institutional investors.

Fundraising ambitions

The timing is deliberate. NIIF is courting a wider mix of limited partners from Japan through Europe, betting that India's infrastructure build-out will keep pulling in patient overseas capital. Over the last two years, the fund says it has locked in approximately $3 billion in new investment commitments, placing it among the largest India-focused alternative asset fundraisers. "We have seen strong support from institutional investors across our successor funds, reflecting confidence in both the India opportunity and NIIF's investment strategies," said Sanjiv Aggarwal, NIIF's Managing Director & CEO. "As we enter our next phase of growth, deepening our relationships with existing investors, bringing new investors into the NIIF ecosystem and broadening our sources of capital will be important priorities."

Singh's track record

Most recently, while in Singapore with PAG's private equity arm, Singh led fundraising and investor relations and sat on both the investment and exit committees. Before PAG, he held roles at KKR & Co. and at Indian private equity firm True North.

Why it matters for your money

Founded in 2015 by the Modi government, NIIF has stewardship of roughly $7 billion in equity allocated to infrastructure, private markets, growth equity and climate-focused strategies, and it has set a prior goal of reaching $10 billion in assets under management. If India's infrastructure upswing keeps drawing long-term capital as NIIF expects, that can translate into more roads, renewables and logistics capacity on the ground. For everyday investors, that backdrop supports the broader India growth narrative that's been attracting global attention.
