Schonfeld Brings Lorenzo Longo onto Delta One Desk

Summary:
  • Schonfeld Strategic Advisors has added Lorenzo Longo as a portfolio manager.
  • Longo previously spent over two years at Kedalion Capital Management and over ten years at Goldman Sachs.
  • He will join the firm's Delta One trading desk and report to Riccardo Riboldi.

New Hire Lands on Schonfeld's Delta One Desk

Goldman Sachs was where Longo spent over ten years of his career.

Then he spent over two years at Kedalion Capital Management, a Millennium Management-backed firm.

Now he is taking his resume to Schonfeld Strategic Advisors. The New York-based hedge fund has added Longo as a portfolio manager, and he will work on its Delta One trading desk.

His new boss, Riccardo Riboldi, joined Schonfeld in 2023 and oversees global emerging markets and the Delta One trading desk. That puts Longo on one of the firm's more technical trading desks.

Longo's background suits this job. A long stretch at Goldman teaches a trader how big institutions move money, and his time at Kedalion added another layer of investor experience.

He has seen the business from both a big bank and a firm backed by a major hedge fund.

Delta One and Schonfeld's Hiring Push

What kind of trading does this desk actually do? The name sounds technical, but the idea is simpler than it seems.

When top traders switch desks, it's a reminder that smart moves matter, so grab the free Always Be Buying eBook.

Delta One products have a delta of approximately one. The idea is a math concept that traders use to measure how closely a product tracks the asset behind it.

When delta is near one, the two move almost in step. Exchange-traded funds, futures, forwards, and swaps are common examples.

ETFs, which trade on exchanges like stocks, are the easiest of these to picture. Futures and forwards are agreements to buy or sell something later, while swaps are contracts to exchange cash flows.

For a hedge fund, a Delta One desk is a way to make trades that move in line with a market or an asset. That is part of why Schonfeld wants an experienced person on the desk.

The hire also fits the firm's style. Schonfeld has a reputation for actively recruiting investment talent, and this move is part of that pattern.

The firm's assets have grown, and investor demand is high. To keep pace, Schonfeld needs experienced people who can handle complex trading.

Investor demand is not an abstract idea. It means real clients are handing Schonfeld more money to manage.

When a fund gets more money, it faces pressure to find more ways to put that money to work, and that often means hiring people with specialized experience.

What This Means for Your Money

What does one hire inside a giant hedge fund mean for your portfolio? On its own, not much.

But it is a useful peek behind the curtain. Big funds like Schonfeld are spending heavily on specialized talent, and Delta One is exactly the kind of desk where that talent can make a difference.

These are not the flashy trades that make headlines. They are careful, often mechanical moves designed to keep a fund balanced or take advantage of small price gaps.

Most of them never end up in a headline, but they are a big part of how professional firms run.

The fight for trading talent is a reminder that even the pros have to work hard for their results. That is worth keeping in mind the next time someone promises an easy path to market-beating returns.

Your portfolio does not need to win that race. It just needs to work for you.

News like this shows how pros build wealth, and the free Always Be Buying eBook can help you too.

Why Is Everything So Expensive? Why Prices May Never Come Back Down

What a Tariff Dividend Means for Your Money
