Fundraising and the next strategy
Aggarwal told Bloomberg Television that a performing private credit fund is on deck for launch in the coming quarters. Established in 2015 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration, NIIF oversees roughly $7 billion in equity capital commitments that span climate, growth equity, private markets, and infrastructure investments. Backers include the Government of India as well as global investors like Temasek Holdings Pte, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and AustralianSuper Pty, and it manages four strategy buckets: growth equity, private markets, climate, and infrastructure.
Why this matters for your money
AI is fueling a race for computing capacity, and India wants a bigger role in hosting it. According to KPMG, the total addressable market could reach $90 billion across India's ecosystem of data-center activities by fiscal year 2035, spanning server deployment as well as the supporting infrastructure and services. NIIF plans to expand assets under management to $10 billion over the next 12 to 18 months and has become a key channel for sovereign wealth and pension funds targeting clean energy, transport and digital infrastructure. For everyday investors, the takeaway is simple: India's buildout isn't just about shiny new servers, it is about the long-term plumbing that underpins growth.
