Poland's Planned 'Fort Trump' Could Cost 17 Billion Zloty and Open by 2029

Troops and capacity

According to Rzeczpospolita, Poland's National Security Bureau says the discussions with Washington include a permanently based force of roughly 5,000 soldiers. Earlier remarks from Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski suggested the installation could accommodate about 10,000 troops. For context, about 7,000 US service members are currently in Poland on a rotational basis.

Politics and possible sites

The talks are unfolding as European governments weigh the possibility of a smaller US footprint in the region. President Donald Trump has urged European allies to shoulder more of their own defense, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is reviewing American deployments across the Atlantic. Areas near Wroclaw, Poznan and Szczecin are being evaluated, all in western Poland and closer to Germany than to Ukraine.
