What the model is signaling
Sokol's analysis sees a near term flare and a longer fade. Officials' remarks imply inflation still edges toward 4% in the fourth quarter, then drifts toward 2% and below over the following year. For 2027, the signals point to roughly 2.4% by midyear and 1.7% later on, which lines up with Bloomberg Economics' forecast of inflation slipping under 2% in the second half.
How the signals were extracted
The approach used artificial intelligence to scan headlines generated from policymakers' speeches and interviews, then fed those clues into a non-linear forecasting tool. As Sokol put it, "Buried in the deluge of ECB communications are signals about how policymakers see inflation risks evolving." His takeaway: the inflation impulse from the Iran war looks short lived.
