What Omega bought and why it matters
Omega Healthcare Investors, a Maryland-based investor, has acquired 55 assisted living sites across the UK for £615 million ($829 million). It partnered with Foundation Partners to buy Runwood Homes, expanding Omega's holdings in the country to more than 350 care homes.
How the portfolio will be run
Foundation Partners will manage the properties through its Evera Living platform. Framing the move, Chief Investment Officer Vikas Gupta said the deal "reflects Omega's ambition" in the sector and its "commitment" to the UK.
The backdrop: demand and deal flow
Healthcare real estate has been one of the better performing corners of property since interest rates began rising in 2022. In the UK, an aging population and long waitlists within the National Health Service, which is publicly financed, underpin demand. Deal interest is still showing up too: last month, Primary Health Properties Plc teamed up with Singapore's GIC Pte in a new joint venture and broadened its prior arrangement with Universities Superannuation Scheme Ltd.
