What the company does
San Diego based Aspen is a clinical-stage developer of stem cell derived therapies targeting neurodegenerative diseases. Its lead program, sasineprocel, is in an early to mid stage study for Parkinson's disease and has both Regenerative Medicine Advanced Therapy and Fast Track designations from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Financials and who owns what
For the first half of the year through June 30, Aspen recorded a $36.5 million net loss with no revenue, versus a $31.8 million loss and no revenue in the same stretch last year. Filings name these investors: OrbiMed Advisors, projected to own 8.9% post-IPO; Arch Venture Partners, slated for 8.3%; and Gilead, expected to be at 5.7%.
Why it matters for your portfolio
Biotech listings remain active: on the same day, Bambusa Therapeutics fell 6.3% in its first session after a $168.9 million IPO. For investors weighing Aspen, the starting valuation, lack of revenue, trial stage, and the post-IPO ownership mix are the key markers to track as the pipeline moves.
