Morgan Stanley Sees Rare Chance to Invest in SpaceX After Price Decline

Published Aug 27, 2026

Summary:
  • Analyst Adam Jonas views SpaceX's stock drop as an attractive entry point, citing strong fundamentals.
  • The company will invest heavily in a Louisiana launch complex, with operations slated to begin by 2029.
  • Morgan Stanley remains bullish despite valuation concerns from some investors.

Morgan Stanley sees a buying opportunity in SpaceX stock after its post-IPO drop, citing the company's ambitious expansion plans and strong fundamentals. Analyst Adam Jonas, who also covers Tesla for the bank, highlighted SpaceX's massive investment in a new Louisiana launch facility as a key catalyst.

"We think investors have a unique opportunity to 'revisit' SPCX stock right on top of the IPO price with arguably even greater momentum in fundamentals across Space, Connectivity and Enterprise AI," Jonas wrote. The new Starbase in Vermilion Parish will begin construction next year, with launches starting in 2029.

Morgan Stanley's Bullish Case

Jonas argued that the market underestimates SpaceX's Starship program and its Louisiana facility's potential. "We do not believe investors appreciate the scale of what SpaceX is planning with Starship," he said. The analyst noted the stock trades at 10x sales and 25x EBIT based on the bank's FY28 forecasts.

The optimism follows SpaceX's Q2 earnings, which showed strong growth despite higher capex spending projections that initially pressured shares. Jonas said the expiration of lockup periods didn't create the selling pressure some feared.

Contrasting Views on Valuation

Morgan Stanley's stance diverges from some prominent investors. Hedge fund manager David Einhorn recently expressed bearish views on SpaceX in his investor letter. However, Jonas emphasized SpaceX's launch capabilities, predicting the Louisiana base will become its largest and support thousands of annual launches.

"The State of Louisiana also sits in a unique position for southward launches over the Gulf that would be challenging from FL, TX, or CA without passing directly over populated areas," Jonas added, highlighting the site's strategic advantage.

The Path Forward

Morgan Stanley's report underscores the high-stakes nature of SpaceX's expansion. While valuation debates persist, the company's $100 billion infrastructure investment and aggressive launch timeline suggest confidence in long-term growth. As Jonas noted: "In our view, SPCX is attractively valued" given its projected growth trajectory.

The bank's analysis maintains that SpaceX's post-IPO price drop represents a rare chance for investors to buy into the space company's next phase of development. With the Louisiana facility expected to dramatically increase launch capacity, Morgan Stanley sees multiple catalysts ahead.

Common reporting obstacles include unquantified claims about expansion plans and anonymous sourcing. SpaceX's concrete financial commitment and named analyst commentary provide the specificity financial reporting requires.

Background: SpaceX's Ambitious Growth Plans

SpaceX continues to push boundaries in commercial spaceflight, with its Louisiana expansion representing one of the largest private infrastructure projects in recent memory. As Morgan Stanley's report emphasizes, the company's ability to execute on these plans while maintaining financial discipline will likely determine its long-term stock performance.

Principal 401k: What to Know About Your Plan
  • Principal is one of many companies that manage workplace 401k plans, so a "Principal 401k" is simply a 401k where Principal is the provider.

What a Tariff Dividend Means for Your Money
  • A "tariff dividend" is the idea of taking money the government collects from tariffs and paying some of it back to citizens.
  • To judge the idea, you first need to know what a tariff is: a tax on imported goods, usually paid by the companies bringing them in.
  • Tariffs ripple through prices, businesses, and your investments, so the smart move is understanding those ripples, not just the headline.

No Tax on Overtime: How Overtime Pay Is Taxed
  • "No tax on overtime" refers to a tax break that lets certain workers deduct some overtime pay, lowering the income they get taxed on.
  • A deduction does not mean overtime is truly tax-free. It means part of that pay is subtracted before your tax is figured.
  • The bigger money lesson: how you earn money changes how it is taxed, and investors often get the friendliest treatment of all.

Reading the Silver Price Forecast for 2026
  • Nobody can honestly promise a specific silver price for 2026. Any exact number is a guess, so treat forecasts as opinions, not facts.
  • Silver is unusual because it is both a precious metal and an industrial metal, so its price answers to two very different forces.
  • Instead of chasing a forecast, learn the drivers - inflation, interest rates, recession fear, and industrial demand - so you can judge any prediction yourself.
