What Trump announced
After reports that Scott Bessent was being weighed for an AI leadership post, Trump clarified the plan on Friday. On Truth Social he wrote, "Scott Bessent will not be going to be Super Intelligence (SI) Czar." He added, "Number One, he doesn't want to. Number Two, he's doing such a great job at Treasury, and that's where I want to keep him!" and followed with, "Why would I ever make such a change?"
Where AI policy stands now
Separately, on Sept. 19, Trump posted that he would create an "AI Force, much like I did Space Force." He said on Truth Social that he would be "announcing, in the near future, the AI 'Czar'," calling AI "the next Industrial Revolution, or Internet, but will be even larger and more impactful, possibly as much as 25% of our Country's GDP." He also wrote, "We are leading China, and the rest of the World, and I intend to keep it that way!"

What to watch and what it means for your portfolio
The takeaway: Bessent stays focused on Treasury, at least by Trump's stated intent, while the search for an AI czar continues alongside talk of an "AI Force." That mix signals ongoing attention on AI strategy and its economic footprint, including Trump's framing of AI as potentially touching a quarter of U.S. GDP. For everyday investors, the policy drumbeat matters because it shapes where federal focus, funding, and rules could steer real demand in chips, cloud, and data infrastructure over time.
