What regulators signaled
Financial Supervisory Commission Chairman Peng Jin-lung said Tuesday the agency will unveil the new investor limit by the end of next month. The move focuses on offshore private equity and private credit offerings available inside Taiwan's dedicated wealth-management zone. As it stands, each fund is capped at 99 investors and participation requires assets of at least NT$30 million ($946,000).
More changes coming to the wealth zone
Peng said regulators will broaden family-office advisory services next month and loosen some constraints on certain life insurance products sold in the zone. Officials are also working on a route for high-net-worth clients there to access foreign crypto exchange-traded funds.
The bigger strategy
Taiwan wants to be a regional hub for wealth, tapping fast-growing private fortunes and lively capital markets supported by its technology leaders. Recent shifts span a dedicated wealth-management zone to boost private banking, higher financing flexibility for brokerages, and efforts to steer billions of insurers' capital back into local investments. Separately, banks will be permitted to seek approval to run pilot programs for deposit tokens using blockchain, helping Taiwan keep pace with the worldwide move to tokenize real-world assets.
