Leadership Change At The Top
JCB said on Monday that George Bamford, 45, currently deputy chairman, will become joint chairman alongside his father, Anthony Bamford, as the company "invests for its next chapter." Anthony Bamford, the founder's son, has led the board since 1975, guiding the excavator and tractor maker from a mainly British manufacturer into a global player. During his tenure, JCB expanded internationally, including in India, which is now one of its key manufacturing hubs.
Family, politics and career notes
In 2013, Anthony Bamford received appointment as a Conservative peer and has since been a notable political donor, contributing £200,000 apiece to Reform UK and the Conservatives last year. Before stepping into a senior position at JCB, George Bamford built a luxury-watch business, founding the Mayfair-based Bamford Watch Department.
Financial and operational snapshot
JCB builds excavators, tractors, and additional machinery serving the agricultural and construction sectors, employing over 20,000 people globally. In 2025 the company recorded £642 million in pretax profit, compared with £687 million the previous year. It said machinery sales decreased by 5% owing to softness in the North American and Indian markets, and it is contending with geopolitical uncertainty.

Expansion and what to watch for investors
JCB expects to switch on a new Texas factory of about 1 million square feet next month. Earlier, it outlined an expansion to double that facility's footprint to mitigate the effects of President Donald Trump's tariffs. Framing the leadership step as part of "invests for its next chapter" hints at a tandem push on succession and capacity closer to customers in the US.
